Art Freak of the Week 1- Alex

Quick Facts
Name: Alex Curley
Age: 19
Born: Houston, TX
Raised: Richmond, VA
Favorite Color: Anything grey or neutral & gold
Favorite Artists: Gustave Klimt and Egon Schiele

Alex Curley is a freshman Art Foundation student who lives in the artist colony. I knew he had to be my first art freak after I saw the video of a fashion show that he and a friend put on at their high school featuring their original designs. But then I saw photos of his artwork and somehow became even more impressed than I already was. It is abundantly clear to me that we will be all be seeing much more of Alex's adorable smile and breathtaking artwork after our time at VCU.

From Alex's Senior Showcase:

It's artists like Alex that remind me why I wanted to come to VCU. Everyone is so inspiring. And being in the company of these artists is only going to help me grow as an artist.

  2. Art Freak of the Week! I love it, it rhymes! As I perused through the student blogs, I saw this and HAD to make it one of my comments for this week. I think it's really cool that you're doing this series and it'll be great to see the diversity of such interesting and talented people here. I also just had to comment because I think Alex is super cool... we don't even know each other that well, but I knew of him through a mutual friend and then I saw his work on facebook and seeing how talented he was, I was like "I have to meet this guy!" We have almost the exact same interests, I am also interested in both Communication Arts and Art Education, I would also love to teach art either in high school or college level. I don't really know what else to say in this comment, except for keep up this series and I will definitely follow it (I feel like it should be something showcased officially through VCUarts, that'd be awesome), and yes, Alex was a very appropriate first Art Freak of the Week.
